Introduction to Dronfield, England
The North Derbyshire town of Dronfield comprises three communities, Coal Aston, Dronfield Woodhouse and Dronfield itself. It's set on the River Drone, midway between Chesterfield and Sheffield, and close to the bleak Pennine moorlands as well as the beautiful Derbyshire Peak District National Park. Nowadays, the town mainly serves as a dormitory district for Sheffield. Little is known about its history, except that settlement first took place here over 1,000 years ago. The early 12th century parish church still stands, although the nearby priests' hall was converted to an inn after the Dissolution of the Monasteries ordered by King Henry VIII and is still in use as a pub today. The centre of town still keeps its medieval character, with a small number of Dronfield hotels offering pleasant accommodation for those who prefer to stay outside the major towns in the region while benefiting from easy access to the wild Derbyshire moorlands. other spellings: dronfiedhotels, dronfield otel, dronfield hotell, dromfield hote, dronfiedl hotes
