Doncaster Airport, located six kilometres from Doncaster and 30kms from Sheffield, rejoices in the full name of Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield, in memorial of the famous outlaw who stole from the rich to give to the poor in his home in nearby Sherwood Forest. It's Yorkshire's second-largest airport, with a passenger throughput of just under 900,000 per year. Low cost airlines including Ryanair, EasyJet, Thomson, WizzAir and Flybe offer international flights to mainly holiday destinations along the shores of the Mediterranean and in North Africa. Onward transportation from the airport to nearby towns and cities is slightly sketchy, as there is no direct fast link as yet to the M1 motorway via the M18. Doncaster lies near the M62 Manchester/Leeds motorway, as well as the A1M. The rail station is 11kms from the airport, but regular local bus services connect with the city and its surrounding areas. Taxis and car rental are alternatives and, if accommodation at nearby Doncaster Airport hotels has been pre-booked, a shuttle bus may be arranged.
