Located in the heart of the United Kingdom in the East Midlands, Derby is a city at the crossroads of the country, between north and south, east and west. The outskirts of the city lie adjacent to beautiful English countryside dotted with small villages, parks and golf courses, with excellent transport links to the rest of the country given the geographical location of the city and its environs. Nottingham, Sheffield, Birmingham and Coventry are all within about an hour's drive of the periphery of the city. Much of Derby outskirts are made up of residential suburbs but there is a considerable amount of accommodation in these areas as well. Derby hotels on the outskirts are most numerous on Queensway to the west of the city centre and in the opposite direction, close to Wyvern Business Park and West Meadows Industrial Estate, both key areas of commerce east of Derby. Perhaps the biggest draw on the city's outskirts, however, is the Peak District National Park to the northwest by 30 miles. Here, hillwalking and climbing are popular.
