The village of Denham, now part of the massive Greater London conurbation, lies adjacent to Uxbridge in the county of Buckinghamshire, within easy reach of the M1 and M25 motorways. Originally settled over 1,000 years ago, its main street, Village Road, holds several historic red-brick houses charmingly covered in giant wisterias. The well-known Denham Film Studios were located in the village. Denham expanded during the post WWII period and is now a dormitory area for London workers, with modern developments surrounding its pretty town centre. St Mary's Parish Church is worth a visit for its Tudor monuments and flint and stone Norman tower as well as the peace and quiet of its grassy little churchyard. Several small Denham hotels cater for visitors to the area, with a larger collection in nearby Uxbridge mainly serving the overflow from hotels around Heathrow Airport. A drive into the countryside around the village reveals settlement such as Stoke Poges, Iver Heath and George Green as well as farms, quaint country pubs and tree-lined lanes.
