Introduction to Dartford - Brands Hatch

Famous with motor and motorcycle racing fans since the 1960s, the Brands Hatch circuit in Kent is located near the Kent town of Dartford, some 26kms from central London. Starting from 1964, the circuit hosted the British Formula 1 Grand Prix 12 times, ending 22 years later with the transfer of the event to Silverstone. The Grand Prix layout is still in use for major events, although noise restrictions prevent more than a few races every year. The shorter Indy circuit is set up in a natural 'amphitheatre' area, giving spectators uninterrupted views of the entire race. Nowadays, although the circuit is subject to a curfew of 18:30 as a result of housing development in its vicinity, motor racing takes place every weekend during the racing season. For everything from small motor racing club events to international level competitions, up to 50,000 spectators arrive at the circuit, many of whom stay at nearby Brands Hatch hotels. Championships held here include FIA Formula 2 race, the British Formula 3 and the British Superbike Championship.
