Introduction to Darlington - Airport
County Durham and several areas of North Yorkshire are served by one of the UK's smaller airports, located nine kilometres to the southeast of the city of Darlington. Known as Durham tees Valley Airport and locally referred to as Teeside Airport (its original name), in spite of its small size the facility offers links to European as well as domestic destinations. With just under 300,000 passenger throughputs each year, routes served include Amsterdam via KLM, Bodrum and Dalaman via Onur Air, and Bourgas with BH Air. Thomson offers flights to Palma de Majorca and Alicante. Recent improvements include a new terminal front and access road, but further upgrades are now on hold as passenger numbers are declining. Ground transportation from the airport to Darlington is by local buses and by shuttle bus from the Darlington Airport hotels outside the complex. Taxis are also available outside the terminal, and car rental can be arranged.
