Introduction to Cuckfield, England
The West Sussex town of Cuckfield lies on the Weald of Sussex's southern slopes, some 55kms to the south of London and 20kms from the seaside resort of Brighton. Once an important market town and coaching halt between London and Brighton, it functions nowadays as a dormitory town for workers in the capital, with regular fast trains to the city running on the Brighton line. The pretty High Street boasts Victorian and Georgian buildings, and there are a few fine heritage sights including the Elizabethan Cuckfield Park and the parish church, built in the 13th century on Norman foundations. Another Elizabethan building, Ockenden Manor, is now a Michelin-starred restaurant, and several Cuckfield hotels are set along the High Street in ancient coaching inns. The town is set in typical Sussex rolling countryside, with the A270 road giving easy access to many neighbouring villages and historic Brighton with its famous Royal Pavilion, designed by John Nash in Indo-Persian style as a summer home for the Prince Regent. other spellings: cuckfieldhotels, cuckfiedl otel, cuckfiled hotell, cuckfeild hotell, cuckifeld hotle
