Introduction to Crowcombe, England
The charming Somerset village of Crowcombe with its 500 residents lies at the foot of the Quantock Hills in southwest England, in a land area once owned by Glastonbury Abbey. The settlement was formed as early as 834 AD, and is listed in the 1086 Domesday Book as an agricultural centre. Nowadays, it's visited by many walkers along the Quantock Greenery trail across the hills. Many more visitors arrive to ride the heritage West Somerset Steam Railway from the quaint Crowcombe Heathfield Railway Station, an English Heritage Grade II listed building together with the railway workers' cottages and station master's house. The 14th/15th century village church of the Holy Ghost is also listed by English Heritage as a Grade I religious building and holds Pagan carvings of the legendary Green Man and a local hero defeating a two-headed dragon. Those searching for Crowcombe hotels may have to look in nearby Taunton, although a good bed and breakfast is found in the village itself. other spellings: crowconbehotels, crowcomeb hotell, crowcobme hote, crowcmobe hotes
