A historic working mill is now the Croft Mill Hotel Hebden Bridge, set in a charming town of 100 independent shops in the Pennines. This riverside Yorkshire community has previous won awards for having the most unique high street in central England and being the country’s most alternative and funky town. Welcome baskets filled with fresh local produce greet guests in all of the historic structure’s self catering apartments, and daily breakfasts can begin with freshly baked croissants delivered to the door. The sofas are leather, the floors are oak wood and there are flat screen televisions in each apartment. Each private balcony has comfortable benches and private DVD viewing can be accompanied by freshly popped popcorn. Visitors can quickly walk to the nearest train station, from which Manchester or Leeds can be reached in less than 50 minutes. It is also easy to drive to the lovely market towns of Holmfirth and Haworth.
