Introduction to Corse Lawn, England
Set in the ancient Forest of Dean, just inside Herefordshire on the border with Gloucestershire, the hamlet of Corse Lawn lies equidistant from Tewksbury and the county seat of Gloucester. Once a forested, boggy area belonging to the great Deerhurst Monastery, the area had become a well-drained sheep-grazing pasture by the late 18th century and was arable farmland for most of the 19th century. The fine 16th century manor house, almost the only building in the hamlet, was enlarged in the 19th century and is now a Grade II listed upscale country house hotel and spa. The choice of Corse Lawn hotels is limited, although there are plenty of options in Tewkesbury and Gloucester. The historic Forest of Dean is bounded by two rivers, the Wye to the north and west and the Severn to the south, and is a rare remnant of the once great forests covering the south of England in ancient times. The mysterious woodlands are home to tiny villages, deer and wild boar as well as a variety of tree, bird and butterfly species, and are great for horseback riding and walking. other spellings: corse lawnhotels, corselawn otel, cors lawn hotell, cose lanw hote, kors lawn
