Introduction to Corby, England
Though artefacts found in the area show humans to have been here since Mesolithic and Neolithic times, the town of Corby dates from about the 8th century, when the Danes invaded and formed a settlement. In recent centuries, the community became an important industrial town. Sitting in Northamptonshire, a county in England’s East Midlands, the town now attracts plenty of tourists, many of whom stay at Corby hotels. Corby’s economy was once inextricably linked to the production of steel, and visitors to the area are provided with the opportunity to explore this history, which in fact dates back to Roman days, when iron ore was already being mined here. In more recent years, the town has enjoyed a renewed tourist trade, with it hosting many people who visit the nearby Rockingham Motor Speedway, the most modern racing venue in the UK. For an escape into nature, Rockingham Forest, formerly royal hunting grounds, encircles the town.
