Introduction to Congleton, England
Congleton is a historic town in England, located in the country’s north, in the county of Cheshire. It sits along the banks of the River Dane. To the east is the Macclesfield Canal, which was once a vital component of the regional economy. Congleton hotels support an ever expanding tourist industry. In fact, people have been visiting this area since perhaps as long ago as the Bronze Age, as shown by artefacts that have been found in the town. There is an interesting story that alleges Congleton to have sold the town Bible in the 1620s to pay for a new bear at a time when bear baiting was a financially lucrative sport. Many of the hotels in Congleton are likely to offer a version of this rather unlikely tale. The town enjoys a range of historic attractions, including a variety of period buildings. Many of these are easily reached from most Congleton hotels.
