Introduction to Coggeshall, England
The charming mid-sized English market town of Coggeshall lies between Braintree and Colchester on Stane Street, a road that dates to the Roman era. More than a few local businesses have been continuously operating here for the last few centuries. Among them are historic Coggeshall hotels that offer guests history along with their nightcaps. And on Market Hill, a weekly market has been talking place since 1256, when King Henry III granted the town market status. The Essex Best Kept Village award went to Coggeshall in 1998 and from 2001 to 2003. The beautiful St Peter-ad-Vincula Church, which was built atop the foundation of a Norman-era church, is worth a visit for its soaring interior that makes it one of the tallest churches in Essex. Also notable is the chapel used by Protestant dissenters that broke away from the Church of England. Other landmarks include St Nicholas' Chapel and Coggeshall Abbey. Methodists and Quakers also have churches here that are worth checking out.other spellings: cogeshollhotels, coggeshall otel, coggeshol hotell, coggesharl hote, cogeshol hotes
