Introduction to Codicote, England
Eleven kilometres south of Hitchin in Hertfordshire lies the large civil parish and English town of Codicote. It contains many noble brick and wood buildings, of which the 18th century Pond House and the half-timbered Chinese restaurant are particularly noteworthy. The town church, which still has its original nave and aisles from the 1200s, was thoroughly remodeled in 1853. A most unusual structure north of the village is Node Dairy and Stud. It is circular in design, and has a circular courtyard and tower. Codicote is handsomely situated on a chalk ridge in the Chiltern Hills. Parts of the parish rise to 140 metres high. A fine Codicote edifice is St Giles Church and its chapel of the Holy Innocents. It dates from the early 12th century. Lovely inns and loges are among the best Codicote hotels for relaxing in. Also great for good times are the town's handful of public houses.
