Introduction to Cockermouth, England
One of England’s many old market towns, Cockermouth is located in the scenic English northwest county of Cumbria. The town’s name is a reference to the fact that it sits at the point where the River Cocker flows into the River Derwent. Both the town and the county are hugely popular with tourists, many of whom stay in Cockermouth hotels. The community enjoys an excellent supply of largely-intact historical architecture dating from the 18th and 19th centuries. The locality also provides excellent access to the neighbouring Lake District, which is famous around the world for offering some of the finest natural scenery found anywhere. The town has enjoyed a market since at least as far back as the early 13th century. A popular landmark is Cockermouth Castle, a still inhabited, large Norman castle that lies partially in ruins, with a leaning tower. Visitors can tour the creepy dungeons for a look at where the town’s prisoners were once kept.other spellings: cockernouthhotels, otel cockermouht, cockermotuh hotell, cockermuoth hote
