Introduction to Chichester, England
The cathedral city of Chichester is located in West Sussex and boasts a long and interesting history. It is home to many old churches and other religious buildings, and there are a few local art galleries, a theatre and many places to stay. The South Downs and Chichester Harbour are major tourist draws and the town is a transport hub. Hotels in Chichester are mainly congregated in the centre of the town, close to the shopping and entertainment areas. The River Lavant provides a pretty flow of water throughout much of the town and industries along its banks are mainly geared towards tourism. The 11th century cathedral with its separate bell tower and churches are among the most popular tourist attractions and the Chichester Festivities, a festival held in July, lasts for three weeks. It is possible to walk parts of the old city walls or to make excursions to nearby towns of interest such as Arundel.
