Introduction to Cheshunt, England
Once a settlement on the ancient Roman northbound road of Ermine Street, present-day Cheshunt lies within the Greater London area in the county of Hertfordshire, 20kms from central London. Most of its residents work in the capital or at the headquarters of supermarket chain Tesco on the outskirts of the town. Cheshunt's most famous resident was the young Queen Elizabeth I, who stayed here before her ascension to the English throne. Conveniently located on the A10, the Great Cambridge Road linking to the M25 motorway, Cheshunt hotels provide a good semi-rural base for visitors exploring both the county and the capital. Within a short drive is St Albans, the site of the ancient Roman town of Verulamium, famous for its excavated Roman buildings and the Verulamium Museum which displays stunning mosaic floors. A drive into the countryside along the twisting tree-lined lanes of B roads will reveal pretty little villages with roadside local pubs serving delicious pub grub. This region of Hertfordshire is a mix of town and country, with farms and market gardens nestled in between modern commuter and industrial towns. other spellings: cheshunthotels, cheshumt otel, cheshutn hotell, cheshnut hote, chesuhnt hotes
