Introduction to Chertsey, England
The Surrey town of Chertsey is one of the many communities that surround London in the commuter belt. With a history going back at least to 666 AD, this is one of England's oldest towns and is mentioned in the Domesday Book, under the name Certesi. Despite the town's long history, it lacks the kind of quaint town centre seen in some of the country's more picturesque villages and towns. Chertsey hotels do, however, offer excellent access to some key attractions. Within the town itself, Chertsey Abbey is the biggest historic landmark. The town museum provides an excellent illustration of local history. Surrey's popular theme park, Thorpe Park, also has its entrance in the town. Transport links are strong, with the journey to nearby Heathrow Airport taking less than 20 minutes on a good day. The railway line into London's Waterloo Station also makes it easy to visit the nation's capital.
