Dorset is a popular UK tourist area and the town of Charmouth attracts many visitors in the summer to soak up the local English atmosphere. Hotels in Charmouth as well as the surrounding area are varied and there are a few chain options as well as local bed and breakfasts - some of which are found above pubs. Many of the places to stay are located close to the beach and some have sea views. Only 2,000 people reside here and although small, the town is attractive to many holidaymakers due to its location right in the heart of the World Heritage listed Jurassic coast; visitors can learn much about this at the Heritage Coast Centre in the town. The area is famous for its cliffs, home to many fossils. There is a range of tourist-orientated shops here as well as a few cafes. Accommodation is often full of walkers looking to tackle to local countryside, with sights such as the Golden Cap available for exploration. The historic town of Lyme Regis is also close by.
