Introduction to Chagford, England
Southwestern England's Chagford is a civil parish and small town in the northeast corner of Dartmoor, in Devon. For a village of its relatively small size of around 1,500 residents, it packs in a great variety of shops and boutiques. Locals and visitors alike enjoy making use of the town's cafes and pubs. Storied landmarks around town include Endecott House, near the town square. Given its current name in the early 1990s, it commemorates John Endecott, governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony, who before leaving for North America lived in this town. Interesting religious buildings can be found here, including the Church of St Michael the Archangel, which dates to 1261 and sports a 15th century tower. A top social centre is Jubilee Hall, which offers a flea market on Friday mornings and many sporting opportunities like badminton and table tennis throughout the week.
