Introduction to Castle Cary, England
Castle Cary refers to a town as well as the fort it is named for, both in Somerset, southwestern England. Castle Cary Church is also compelling. Castle Cary is a civil parish and market town eight kilometres northwest of Wincanton. It is attractively set on the River Cary. After the Norman conquest, the castle was refortified. Much of the estate is rather ruined. To get a fuller picture of what the complex was once like, check out the excellent displays at the Castle Cary and District Museum. Castle Cary hotels are great places to rest in after a long day of sightseeing. Also worth a look in town is Market House, which was built in anticipation of increased trade brought by the arrival of the railway in the 1850s. Castle Cary also has a few noteworthy churches. The tallest and best of them is All Saints' Church, which opened in 1470 and has a fine steeple that dates to 1760.other spellings: castle caryhotels, castlecary otel, castel carry hotell, castle cary hote, catles cary
