Just 50 miles from London in East Anglia, Cambridge is a famous university town surrounded by attractive country villages such as Teversham, with its ancient church dating back some 1,100 years. Cambridge outskirts offer excellent transport links given the proximity of the town to Stansted Airport, a major European gateway, and the M11, which heads due south towards the M25 that encircles the capital. Accommodation in Cambridge itself is relatively expensive given the high number of domestic and international visitors that come to see the world-renowned university here. Travellers can therefore save money by staying in Cambridge hotels on the outskirts, where prices are considerably lower despite the good access to nearby transport links. Many of these hotels lie on the A14 road a few miles to the north of the city centre and close to the Hills Road heading in the opposite direction out of town to the south. Granchester to the southwest of the city is a famous tea-sipping spot among authors like Virginia Woolf. Also nearby are the villages of Gransden, where picturesque English countryside and thatched homes offer a priceless look at rural England.
