Introduction to Brackley, England
Brackley, a town of some 14,000 people in the south of Northamptonshire, is well-known as a market town. Few people, however, are aware that King Richard the Lionheart nominated the town as one of five official locations for jousting tournaments. This is just one interesting aspect of the colourful history to be found both in the town itself and throughout the surrounding countryside. Brackley hotels offer visitors superb access to the pretty villages dotted around the county, many of which are still home to Saxon churches. The city of Oxford, one of the biggest draws in the neighbourhood, is less than 20 miles away. Even closer to the town, which is also home to the Mercedes Grand Prix team, is the Silverstone motor racing circuit. This makes Brackley an ideal place for motorsports fans to stay when enjoying the nearby races. Closer to the town centre, visitors will enjoy the remains of the local castle and the local parish church, both of which date from the 11th century.
