Introduction to Borehamwood - Elstree
A village in Hertfordshire, north of London, Elstree is part of the Greater London Area, with a nearby railway station, Elstree & Borehamwood. It has made a name for itself in British television because of the Elstree Film Studios, one of which was located in the village. The BBC took over the studios in 1984 and has since made a number of hit series there although Danziger Studios, the only one actually in the village, has not operated since 1962. Another surprising piece of local infrastructure is the local aerodrome which receives light aircraft. Elstree hotels are surprisingly numerous given the size of the village, mainly due to its presence right next to the M1 motorway. Most are located on the southern side of Aldenham Country Park, where rare livestock is bred, and there is a number of good value three and four-star options available close to the village reservoir.
