Introduction to Blyth, England
The Northumberland port of Blyth lies to the south of the estuary of the River Blyth on the North Sea coastline, 21 miles to the north of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. The port itself dates from the early 12th century, although the modern town came into being from the early 18th century onwards with the advent of large-scale coal mining and shipbuilding in the area. The city diminished following the closure of the shipyards and mines, and is now a dormitory town for Newcastle, with commercial retail and new housing developments part of its ongoing regeneration. Its port, however, is still active, receiving wood pulp and paper from Scandinavia for use in the publishing industry, and the area is known for its two wind farms, one on-shore and one off-shore. Blyth hotels provide comfortable accommodation both for business visitors to Newcastle who prefer to stay outside the city and leisure travellers touring this historic area with its Viking heritage and striking moorland countryside. other spellings: brythhotels, blith otel, biyth hotell, blyht hote, bltyh hotes, bylth hotle, lbyth
