Introduction to Blakeney, England
Once an important fishing village on the northern coast of Norfolk, the port at Blakeney is today only accessible by small vessels as the harbour has silted up. This should not stop visitors from coming to enjoy this lovely scenic community, however. From hotels in Blakeney, one need only take a small drive to reach the many beautiful nature areas in the vicinity. The National Trust, which owns both the harbour and the marshes that surround it, has turned the area into a nature reserve that offers excellent opportunities for bird watching. Seals can even be seen here as they sun themselves on the sand. History plays a major role in this village, and there are plenty of historical landmarks to visit. The Church of St Nicholas is notable for having two towers, one of which was once used as a beacon to help boats get safely into the port. The views from atop Mariners Hill are excellent and the cellars at the nearby Guildhall date from the 14th century.
