Introduction to Blackpool, England
Generations of UK residents have fond memories of seaside holidays in Blackpool, still the nation's most popular holiday resort.

Although there may no longer be a million tourist beds in Blackpool hotels, as was often said during the resort's early 20th century heyday, affordable accommodation is still easy to find.

This resort is currently reinventing itself as growing numbers of tourists choose to take their beachside holidays abroad, but Pleasure Beach remains Great Britain's biggest funfair.

It is home to the UK's tallest roller coaster, the world's first roller coaster and dozens more thrilling rides.

This is also Great Britain's only three-pier beach resort.

The south pier is the liveliest of the three, the north pier is the oldest and quietest, and the central pier contains attractions for everyone.

A lavish ballroom, an aquarium, a circus and a glass elevator leading to an observation deck are just a few attractions on the seven levels of the famous Blackpool Tower.

More than a million light bulbs are used to light up nearly 10kms of the promenade from early September to early November each year.
