Introduction to Basingstoke - City Centre
There is plenty to do when visiting Basingstoke, especially for shoppers. Along with the large shopping centre Festival Place, a major redevelopment project has been undertaken at The Malls, which now enables people to shop undercover from the notorious changeable British weather. Festival Place is over a million square feet and has 165 shops, along with restaurants, bars, a cinema and a sports centre. Diverse sporting activities can also be found at The Leisure Park, which contains an ice rink, bingo, a bowling alley and the Aquadrome - a swimming centre with slides, rapids and two pools. Inside the park is the Milestones Museum, which allows visitors to walk the streets of Hampshire in the 1930s and in Victorian times. The recreated streets include a Victorian pub, an ironmonger and a train station, while the 1930's town has original toys and sweets as well as vehicles that were made locally. Basingstoke City Centre hotels mainly cater to business travellers, as a number of large corporations have headquarters in the town, and good connections to London mean it can be reached in under an hour.other spellings: basingstokecity hotels, center basingstoke hote, otel basingtoke city, basinstoke centre
