Introduction to Barnstaple, England
Barnstaple is a town in the beautiful English county of Devon, in the country’s southwest. It is around 50 miles away from the bustling city of Exeter, which is Devon’s county town. The town brims with old traditions and a wonderfully unique culture, and being close to the coast, it becomes busy with visitors during the summer. This traditional, historical town offers a number of Barnstaple hotels. The town’s heyday during the height of its wool trade is evidenced by a number of local landmarks. Visitors touring the town will want to take in St Anne’s Chapel, the city’s oldest church; Queen Anne’s walk; and the Guildhall, built in the Georgian era. Heritage of earlier times can be seen at Castle Mound, the one-time site of an 11th century wooden castle and the current site of motte remains from a later stone fortification. Butcher’s Row and Pannier Market are the town’s two historical trading spots.other spellings: barnstaplehotels, barnstapel otel, banstaple hotell, branstaple hote, banrstaple hotle
