Introduction to Barnsley, England
In the English county of South Yorkshire is the town of Barnsley. It is situated on the banks of the River Dearne, and is one of the largest towns in the county. Close to Barnsley are the cities of Sheffield and Leeds, which are modern centres of northern England. There are some interesting landmarks and places to visit in the town, including the 18th century stately home of Wentworth Castle, Cannon Hall Museum and the 1930s-built Town Hall. There are hotels in Barnsley in the centre, close to the Town Hall and the football stadium, which is home to the local football club. Along Doncaster Road and close to Dodworth Railway Station, on either side of Barnsley centre, are further tourist amenities such as restaurants and pubs. Despite having been built largely on the coal and glassmaking industries, the town isn't dominated by an industrial character. Local landmarks include the Mall, a shopping complex featuring more than 40 outlets.
