Introduction to Bardwell, England
The tiny village of Bardwell lies 16kms from Bury St Edmunds in the historic Suffolk district of St Edmundsbury. Home to just under 700 residents, this medieval village has many charming old buildings as well as several small equine centres. Recorded in the 1086 Domesday Book, the earliest settlement here was formed in the Stone Age, with Iron Age, Roman and Anglo-Saxon archaeological discoveries indicating its aeons of pre-medieval history. Historic buildings here include a windmill and watermill, the Tithe Barn and a charming medieval village church, along with many old homes, Bardwell's two pubs, the former manor house of Bardwell Hall, now the Moat House, and the 19th century Bardwell Manor. The fledgling Quaker movement was established here in 1701, although its meeting house no longer stands. The two Bardwell hotels are located in old coaching inns, offering a chance to experience Olde England with all its char and tradition. other spellings: bardwellhotels, bardwhell otel, bardwel hotell, badwell hote, bradwell hotles
