Introduction to Avebury, England
The Neolithic henge monument and stone circles at Avebury are certainly one of England's most prized ancient attractions. They date to 2000 BC and are as spectacular as the more famous Stonehenge, 20 miles to the south. The village of Avebury is easily explored on foot, featuring several restaurants, pubs and shops that mostly sell souvenirs of the monument. Many visitors choose to linger here so there are plenty of inns, lodges and hotels in Avebury catering to tourists. Of course, the henge is the main attraction. It is conveniently divided into four quadrants to ease the exploration of this massive monument. After walking among the stones, a good idea is to climb on to the henge bank that overlooks the area and has an excellent path to walk along. Neolithic passage tombs like West Kennett Long Barrow and Silbury Hill are also outstanding examples of ancient man's presence in England. West Kennett Avenue and The Sanctuary give a great perspective to what village life may have been like thousands of years ago.other spellings: aveburyhotels, avebuyr otel, avebruy hotell, aveubry hote, aevbury hotle, avebry hotes
