Introduction to Alston, England
Situated towards the northwest of England, in Cumbria, the small town of Alston is among the most highly elevated towns in the country. With an elevation of about 1,000ft, this town of just over 1,000 people is among the most visited in the area. It’s a popular tourist destination and an ideal jumping off point for trips into the Pennines. Alston’s cobbled streets and old, well-maintained buildings contribute greatly to its historic, quaint atmosphere. Considering its size, the town houses a large selection of Alston hotels. The town can be accessed via the A689 and the B6294 roads. The River South Tyne runs through the town. Just a short way out of the town is the outstandingly beautiful area of the North Pennines. To access this area, simply join the Pennine Way which runs through the town. Visitors can spend their time in the town antique shopping or browsing through the small craft shops that dot the main street. A market is held regularly during the summer months outside the mid-19th century Town Hall with its neo-Gothic facade.other spellings: alstonhotels, alstno otel, alsotn hote, altson hotle, aslton hotell, alstan hotes
