Luxor Travel Guide - Getting There

By bus: visitors can take public buses from most major Egyptian cities direct to Luxor, with services terminating at the station situated behind Luxor Temple. From neighbouring countries such as Israel and Jordan, it’s possible to travel to Luxor (changes may be required) but the journeys are long and unlikely to be pleasant or comfortable.
By train: rail services connect Luxor with the capital Cairo and other major cities such as Aswan. Rail travel is cheaper than air travel and relatively fast and reliable. Services available come in four categories: day travel air-conditioned express train, overnight air-conditioned express train, overnight deluxe sleeper and slow trains.
By air: Luxor International Airport is the principle gateway for international visitors as well as being Egypt’s main southern hub for domestic flights. The airport is located 6kms east of the city and maintains scheduled connections with various Middle Eastern countries as well as with European ones such as the UK, Germany, France, Spain and Italy. Domestic flights operated by Egypt Air run between Luxor and Cairo with a journey time of just one hour.
