Hurghada Travel Guide
By air: Cairo International Airport is the main gateway to the entire country and is the chief point of entry for the majority of visitors bound for Hurghada. Hurghada has its own airport but it serves very few international flights so most holidaymakers are obliged to take a connecting flight from Cairo to Hurghada. The alternative is to fly into Cairo and then transfer by bus or train but this is undoubtedly a much slower and less convenient option.
By train: Hurghada is connected to the Egyptian State Railway network, which allows transportation between the city and most major destinations in the country. To and from some cities, a change at Cairo may be necessary as many services are not direct. There are four categories of carriage in Egypt: air-conditioned day trains, air-conditioned night trains, deluxe sleeper trains and second/third class slow trains.
By road: driving is really not recommended as conditions on Egyptian roads are hectic and there are few rules that are adhered to or enforced with any conviction. Visitors not put off however, will find the journey from Cairo is relatively uncomplicated and well signposted.
By ferry: it’s possible to take the ferry from Sharm El Sheik to Hurghada with services operating on Monday, Wednesday and Friday (Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday for the return journey) with a journey time of six hours.
