Armed Forces Day: this public holiday marks two events; the first being the day on which Egyptian forces crossed the Suez Canal in the Egypt-Israel war and the second now being the death of Sadat in 1981 during the Armed Forces Day.
December Festivals
The Cairo International Film Festival: locals and visitors alike flock to the city of Cairo for this annual showcase of independent and obscure international film productions.
No Fixed Date
Ramadan: celebrated by the country’s Muslim population, Ramadan lasts the entire month and is a period of abstinence from food, drink, cigarettes and sexual activity. Shops and services operate with restrictions and visitors are advised to exercise awareness of the intricacies of this important religious period.
