Cairo Travel Guide - Getting There

By air: the country’s largest international airport is a busy hub facilitating air transportation for national carrier Egypt Air as well as a variety of international carriers. Significant Middle Eastern cities are served, as are large European destinations. Domestic flights are available to and from Alexandria, Aswan, Hurghada and Abu Simbel.
By train: the Egyptian State Railway provides limited connections between Cairo and other major Egyptian cities, offering overnight services to long distance destinations. Second class superior and first class cars are available and offer comfortable transportation. All trains terminate at the Ramses station which is the city’s central railway station.
By road: drivers coming from Alexandria should take the Delta highway and expect a journey time of around three hours. From Luxor, the journey takes 10 hours and is best made via highway 2; while highway 3 provides access from Port Said; and highway 33 from Suez.
