Alexandria Travel Guide - Getting There

By air: El Nouzha Airport is the chief air facility serving Alexandria and is situated 7kms southeast of the city. The airport is a relatively busy facility which provides a hub for national carrier Egypt Air. Connections are maintained with a variety of Middle Eastern destinations as well as with Greece and other European countries.
By ferry: Alexandria is connected by ferry to a number of Greek and Italian destinations including Limassol, Herakliion, Athens and Genoa. Services are limited and visitors will need to be flexible with their schedules in order to accommodate timetables.
By road: the city is well connected to other major Egyptian destinations with a variety of major roads providing access. From Port Said, visitors can take the international coastal road; from Cairo, both the desert road and the agricultural road provide access; from the north coast, visitors should take the Ta'ameer road (Mehwar El-Ta'ameer).
Driving can be something of a dangerous experience in Egypt, with locals renowned for their erratic driving behaviour; visitors are warned to exercise necessary caution if they are determined to command their own vehicles.
