Introduction to Aswan - Nile River
Aswan is southern Egypt's biggest city and is sited on the right bank of the fabled River Nile, facing across to the Tombs of the Nobles. The Corniche runs parallel with the river bank and there are a number of Nile River hotels on the route and in the streets leading away from the river. This district is an atmospheric location with a fine choice of eateries that serve local cuisine and some international dishes. Sharia-as Souq and Hanafi Bazaar are the places to pick up unique souvenirs such as Nubian swords, Egyptian perfumes, amulets and kaftans. Sights within walking distance include El Tabia Mosque and at the south end, Ferial Gardens. The gardens are well maintained and a pleasant location for both foreign visitors and locals to stroll or sit and enjoy an Arabic coffee. The Nubian Museum is nearby. Boarding points for trips on traditional felluca boats are dotted along the riverside. There are also piers where ferries leave for the tombs and Elephantine Island.Visit our Aswan Travel Guide
