Introduction to Aswan - City Centre
Aswan is one of three main tourist cities on Egypt's River Nile. The city is said to be much more relaxed than the other two riverside cities, Luxor and Cairo. Most travellers get here by flying to Aswan International Airport, around 20 minutes' drive from the city centre. Aswan City Centre hotels are convenient for train travellers as the railway station is located in the north of the city centre; this is where trains from Cairo and Luxor arrive. Alternatively, guests could get here by joining one of the many river cruises which depart from Luxor. Aswan city centre is fairly compact and easy to cover on foot. Most attractions in the centre are at the southern end, including the Nubian Museum and the Unfinished Obelisk. Shoppers should visit the Sharia as-Souq, considered to be one of the most atmospheric markets in Egypt. Due to the smaller number of tourists in the city, shopping here is much more leisurely than in Cairo. Tourist goods are more expensive than Cairo but tend to be of a much higher quality.Visit our Aswan Travel Guide
