Introduction to Alexandria - Camp Caesar
The Alexandria district of Camp Caesar received its name because it is said to be the place where Julius Caesar established his camp after Egypt became part of the Roman Empire. Today, Camp Caesar hotels enjoy enviable locations within walking distance of the city's sprawling coastal university campus along the Mediterranean Sea. In addition to the university, this district is also home to several other smaller schools. Even though many parts of Egypt's second-most populated city are said to resemble a European Mediterranean resort more than a typical Middle Eastern getaway, this particular district is similar to neighbourhoods found in Cairo, 225kms to the east. This district is part of the city's larger European quarter, whose streets are well lighted and lined with stately residential buildings. This is among the city's most prosperous areas, and its sheltered harbour handles much of the freight traffic in Egypt's busiest port.
