Introduction to Alexandria - Airport
Alexandria International Airport is located just seven kilometres to the southeast of the city centre. It hosts routes to Egyptian domestic destinations and other cities across the Arab world. Known locally as El Nouzha Airport, in 2009 its passenger throughput was just over a million. EgyptAir, the national flag carrier, is the largest airline operating here, with over 50 flights a week. By the end of 2011, the facility will have shut down to allow major renovations and modernisation of its amenities to take place. The newly modernised Borg El Arab Airport is expected to take up the slack during the two years' closure at Alexandria Airport, and has a new passenger terminal planned to serve a new city taking pressure off Alexandria. A good choice of Alexandria Airport hotels is located between two and seven kilometres from the complex, with most offering a free shuttle bus service to their guests.
