Copenhagen Travel Guide
The city is a predominantly modern one, but its old-world charm appears throughout. In addition, its compact size makes it appealing to explore on foot or by bicycle.
The city’s long and interesting history is clearly reflected in its monuments, palaces and numerous other cultural attractions. The museums and galleries to choose from are of a very high calibre and are sure to satisfy the most sophisticated art and culture connoisseur; while the capital’s range of palaces and castles provide a fascinating look into the royal heritage of this land.
Visitors who enjoy shopping and fine dining will certainly be in their element here. The centre’s Stroget area boasts numerous high-quality shops, designer boutiques and excellent restaurants. Antique lovers will find plenty of opportunities to explore the collections of shops in Bredgade and Laderstrade.
Dining here is varied and the city’s 2,000 eateries will not only provide something for every taste and budget, but the quality of the cuisine at the finer restaurants rivals that of many of Europe’s capital cities. Both traditional local fare and international cuisine are widely available.
Many of its 18th century canal-side buildings have been converted into apartments, offices and lovely small hotels. Another popular area in which to stay is the city’s former red-light district, found directly behind the central rail station.
