Lolland Island's Rodby sits just to the southwest of a major Danish ferry port at Rodbyhavn harbour. Rodby hotels are therefore mostly used by travellers embarking on ferry trips to Germany. The town itself, with a population of just over 2,000, offers little of tourist interest but it makes for a comfortable stopover. Ferries at the nearby harbour depart at 30 minute intervals around the clock, with the journey to Germany's Puttgarden taking 45 minutes. Guests spending the night here may like to pass the time with a visit to the Jack-Stone Amber Museum where pieces of jewellery with amber are on show as well as exhibits detailing the tradition of working with amber in Denmark. You can even pick up pieces at the on-site gift shop. A nearby aquapark is the biggest draw for families with its slides, pools and jacuzzis - the perfect antidote to a ferry journey - but just about any kind of traveller will enjoy the area's largely deserted beaches.
