Introduction to Odense, Denmark
Named after the Norse god Odin, Odense is the third largest city in Denmark. Some pleasant Odense hotels are located on the river and many of these boast outdoor deck restaurants, which are understandably popular in the warmer months. The area around Saint Canute’s Cathedral, a grand edifice and one of the biggest and most impressive of its kind, is a very busy area and plenty of Odense hotels are located around this district. The carved altars of Our Lady’s Church are within walking distance and smaller style Odense hotels like pensions and guesthouses are popular in this area. The City Hall and Odense Palace host regular art and culture events and there are plenty of bullet holes and remnants from WWII. Odense Zoo is actually the town’s most popular tourist attraction, as is Hans Christian Andersen’s house, which is now a well preserved shrine museum to the legendary children’ s author.
