Introduction to Aarhus, Denmark
No corner of Denmark is growing at a faster rate than its second-biggest city, Aarhus, and its surrounding East Jutland metropolitan area. However, the city has still managed to maintain its small town atmosphere and youthful energy. Aarhus hotels may cost more than those found in most other European regions, but guests certainly get what they pay for during their stay here. A brochure describing five historic walks is available at the tourist information office across from the city rail station, and all five walks can be completed in a single day. These scenic strolls will take visitors past historic landmarks such as the world's oldest high school still in operation, which is located next to Denmark's longest cathedral. Another house of worship, Vor Frue Kirke, is one of Scandinavia's oldest existing stone churches. Some of the Den Gamle By open-air museum's 75 authentic buildings date as far back as 1597. More modern attractions here include the ARoS art museum's black walled galleries and the 142m high lighthouse which will soon be Denmark's highest building. Visit our Aarhus Travel Guide
