Introduction to Prague - Zizkov
An engaging blend of ethnic groups, artists and entrepreneurs, the district of Zizkov is one of Prague’s liveliest neighbourhoods and well worth some serious exploration. This area is somewhat off the beaten tourist track, yet one often wonders why given the sheer quantity of excellent cafes, bars and cultural venues on hand. Piercing the centre of Zizkov is the unmistakable Television Tower, Prague’s highest structure. Just next door is another of the capital’s main landmarks, the National Monument, featuring a massive statue of Jan Zizka on the back of a horse. Also worth a visit is the sprawling Olsany Cemetery, where figures like Franz Kafka are buried. The hot spot of Zizkov is where many of Prague’s trendiest places to eat, drink and shop are sprouting up. The western end is a touch on the naughty side with its strip clubs and cheap bars, yet the renowned cultural venue of Palac Akropolis is right around the corner.
