There has been a great deal of settlements on the site which is today known as Prague. The first pre-historic group of settlers arrived in the area over one million years ago, while the first long-term settlement arrived in 5500 BC. During the 6th century AD, the Slavs moved in and began to build a network of colonies and developed a large marketplace which is today known as Old Square.
