Introduction to Jihlava, Czech Republic
At Vysocina region's centre is the Czech city of Jihlava, traditionally a frontier town on the border of Bohemia and Moravia, and the country's oldest centre of mining. The city and most Jihlava hotels rest on the south bank of the Jihlava River. Not a major tourist destination, Jihlava nevertheless has a handful of interesting sights to keep visitors who are passing through entertained. Friars Minor Church of Our Lady, St Jacob Church and the Church of St Ignatius of Loyola are among the early Gothic buildings located here. Further impressive Gothic structures along with remarkable Renaissance buildings dot the centre, most notably the Municipal Hall. Composer Gustav Mahler's parents are buried in the local Jewish cemetery, which offers numerous gravestones of interest. Visitors with kids in tow may like to pay a visit to the zoo, in the city's east, home to over 100 rare species. The various pavilions here make for a fun half-day out. other spellings: jihlaavhotels, otelin jihlva, jihallva hotell, jilhava hote, jilava hotes, ijlava hotle, jehlav
