Nicosia has been the island’s capital for over 1,000 years and is full of historical relics and ruins. The city is uniquely divided by the famous 'green line', which separates the north of the city from the south. The north of the city is governed by Turkey, and the dividing line was created in 1974, when Turkey invaded.
Throughout the island, you will find a whole host of activities suitable for the entire family. There are ample sightseeing opportunities for visitors, who will find an abundance of attractions suited to all ages and interests. Festivals are commonplace throughout the year and if you are on the island during a festival, you should try and join in as most of the festivals are great fun for all.
There are a number of popular coastal resorts perfect for those wanting to relax and soak up the sun. Paphos is very popular with families and couples, while Ayia Napa is the island’s answer to Ibiza, seeing thousands of young holidaymakers arriving in search of a lively party.
There are a number of luxury hotels to be found across the island as well as hundreds of apartments and mid-range hotels. Most accommodation establishments offer discounts throughout the low season, which runs from November through March.
